{Pumpkins, Orchards and Scarecrows}

i love a day that starts with every little one sleeping in till after 8:30. it may have been the darkness that is settling into our mornings...the chilly temps outside or their flannel sheets but i loved my quiet morning house. i made myself an egg white omelet with toast, listened to pandora (james morrison station) and had blueberry muffins baking in the oven. it was lovely.

i have been wanting to paint pumpkins since i saw meg do it last year.
this was such a fun project and the girls really got into it.
i wish there was an extra one for me.
next year we are buying five for sure!

aubrey really loved this project.
she was slapping paint all over the place.
i think we may have another budding artist on our hands.

one of the things i really love about doing an art project together is all the chit chat that happens along the way. sometimes it involves frustration over not being able to get it just right...but most of the time it is peaceful and sweet. i really love art.

we got dressed for the day and headed to the orchard a few towns over.

we used to go to this place a lot when riley and janey were little.

today was aubrey's first time.

she had a blast.

if only the weather had been on our side....it was chilly!!!!

 

we are still working on the smile AND look.:)

they had this little train that runs around the restaurant.
for a quarter it will circle around three times.
we spent a lot of quarters there.

 

these things crack me up.

and kids loooooove them!:)

 

 

sweetest little honey bees i've ever seen.

 

these guys were a bit over zealous and hungry.

we opted not to feed them and save our quarters for the train instead.

they still looked sweet though.

 

 

and there they are...little again.:)

after rest time we tried another project from one of our favorite sites.

janey was having a bit of a creative block so she decided to do hers later.

 

 

aubrey and i drew hers together but she really enjoyed the painting part and did an amazing job.

she loved it so much she decided to paint a picture for poppy too.

 

 

well our day off was a packed one that's for sure.
i think i went a little nutty trying to cram things in.:)
but the girls and i had a wonderful day together and for that i am very thankful.
i miss those little sweeties when they are gone and aubrey does too.
it was a good day for sure.

{Thursday}

another beautiful "warm" fall day here.
the sun was shining and the wind was bloooooowing.
i mean crazy wind.
almost blow you over wind and
drive you a little batty wind.

we picked up janey for lunch and headed to try out our new picnic spot.
she had p.e. right before lunch and was " soooooo hot" so we spent most of our time in the cool car.
but we did pop out a bit to admire the view.

every time we picked a place to sit for a quick pic aubrey kept saying "no...just a little bit closer".
after the shot she said "lets put our feet in the water".
janey quickly said "no...see that sign over there...it says no putting your feet in the water".
it didn't...but i think she's got this mothering thing down already!:)

after dropping janey back at school we headed out for a few quick errands.
i made the mistake of explaining to aubrey that if you have to use the bathroom in the car and it's an emergency you can tell mommy and i can find you a place.

5 minutes later...you guessed it..."mom......!!!"
i found a spot.
hauled her in.
lined the seat with t.p. (for the record i hate that!)
propped her up.
waited.
and waited.
"i don't think i really have to go mom!"
i knew it!
lesson learned.

tomorrow the girls are off from school.
we are all craving a sleep in day together.
we are thinking apple orchard.
we may need our heavy coats though...brrr!
crazy fall weather.
we love it.:)

{Tuesday}

after a beautiful weekend we were hit with the rainy yuckies today.
aubrey and i stayed in to clean and play.
riley asked me in the morning to come see her for lunch even though it wasn't thursday.
so we did.
she was happy to see us when we walked up and aubrey was so sweet surrounded by big kids in the hallway patiently looking for her sister.

we couldn't have our usual picnic so we just got a chocolate milkshake to share and then drove around the park for 30 minutes. found a few new spots to try next week and talked.

lovely.

the last few weeks riley has been staying up way too late reading (surprised?!:)). we told her she needed to come up with her own plan to get to sleep earlier and she did. so far this week she has been in bed reading by 7:45 and lights out by 8:15. what a difference it has made. i see those sweet smiles again.:)

aubrey has been doing the sweetest thing with her sisters at night.
after bath and teeth, the girls pretend to get in bed and aubrey sings them to sleep and tucks them in.
my heart just melts
and so does theirs.
she sings the sweetest lullabies and sometimes makes up ones of her own.
she kisses them on the head,
asks them if they are cozy,
tells them to sleep tight then closes the door.

janey says she practically falls asleep it's so sweet.
they are all in love with this new little nightly ritual.

we are expecting a high of almost 80 today then a high of 43 on friday!
goodness.
