The Big Reveal

I know a lot of you may have seen board and battan rooms on other blogs.  I have been in love with it even before I knew what in the world it was called!:)  I guess the love affair first began looking at  my favorite design  magazine...you know the Pottery Barn Kids Catalog!! :)

I love all of the white, the way it brightens the space, and the clean, fresh look of it.  We started this process a few weeks back and let me say it was a BIG job!!  Bigger then we ever thought it would be.  We still have to do a bit of touch up painting, but for the most part it's done! Ta Da......

I know it is hard to see the details in this collage. (click it and it will get bigger!:) )  I love the way it adds light to the basement.  We do not have any daylight windows in the space, so it can get quite dim down there.  The two doors you see are to an unfinished storage closet and the girls hide-out!  (That is the pink and purple room pictured which is currently being used as an American Girl School.)  {see the snowman on the door...that was from Janey's b-day party in January, we played pin the nose on the snowman and she still won't let me take it down!!:) Gotta love my Janey Brooke} Behind the yellow chair is a guest bedroom and  bathroom.  The girls love the doll/kitchen area.  Can you see Aubrey playing?  She likes that area the best too.  I love the art center.  My heart goes pitter-pat for a fully stocked art area.  I especially love the .50 cent glass jars I got at Hobby Lobby to store some of their supplies in.

So...now I get to decorate and add the fun touches.  Any ideas?  These are my big plans/dreams so far....

have Dave build 3-4 bookcases for more toy and book storage
add their art to the walls (what do you like for frames, white, black, silver, combo of all??)
some fun words on the wall
a world map to match our US one
area rug for color
window seat
old rustic table and chairs for the art area

I would love to hear any suggestions you have.  I am so pleased with the way it came out and I couldn't be happier.  I know stage 2 will take us/me awhile.  I don't make design decisions quickly!:)

Hope you all have a wonderful long weekend!
Any big plans?
My wonderful super amazing  hubby took off today and Tuesday...something about adding board and battan to the laundry room.....
stay tuned!

  3. YOur board and batan looks awesome! Was it hard to do? I would love that in my diningroom.
Your basement looks so fresh and bright! I like your idea of wall words...I think they make a playroom so FUN! With white frames...your room would look like the bottom left picture in PB...which I love! A cubby center with baskets would be fun...I really like the look of the chalboard description thingys (that you see on baskets)...I can't think of what they're called!
Can't wait to see your bathroom! Your hubby is on a roll!!

  6. I love the blue color!!

I have frames with my kids art in our basement. . .it is one of my favorite things in my house. I love looking at all the things they have created over the years!
I think silver would really look nice on that blue.

  7. First and foremost, I must issue you an apology. Brad was trimming bushes and found the envelope to your card. Someone must have found it in my mailbox. I suspect Hyrum, but maybe someone else? I bought a card yesterday, and I'm sending out today. I apologize profusely.

Can I just say--gorgeous? Hello? LOOOOVE it.
With as many art projects as your girls do, you might consider a magnetic strip to rotate some of them around. Or cork board tiles that you frame? That might be good?
They are so lucky to have this room. Great job.

We have no big plans for the long weekend. Kevin is going dove hunting in the morning. Probably just hanging out and relaxing the rest of the time! Enjoy yours!
