{Janey and Her New Flute}

janey has wanted to play flute since forever!
we have such an amazing music program in our schools.
the band teacher starts with them in 5th grade and then follows them all the way through high school! i love that. they build such a rapport and he's awesome too.

janey and i went on saturday to choose her instrument (the students were suppossed to come with two choices in mind in case one didn't work well for them)...but of course she only had one choice in mind. he let her play a note...which sounded beautiful on the first try...he looked at her long graceful fingers and those perfect lips and said..."you'll be a perfect flute player!" to say she was beaming was a HUGE understatement! i think she might have jumped up and down just a bit in the high school music room!:)

it took a few days for her flute to arrive.
getting her up for school that day was a piece of cake i might add.

anna can you see your skirt?...she wanted to channel your musical energy today!:)

that first note rang through the house.
we can't wait to hear more beautiful music janey!

{Today :: Grumpies and Music}

hi friends.
yesterday was a day for me.
ugh!
not sure why.
could have been all the kit kat mini's i ate.
who brought those in the house??:)
ev.er.y.thing was bugging me.

and like it usually is for us mama's, we never get a grumpy day alone.
seems like everyone just has to join us in grumpsville.
am i right?
oh to escape and be grumpy alone....but i guess if we were alone chances are we wouldn't be grumpy anymore....wait...what?
did i just say that?!:)

happy to say today is better.
usually always is.
thank goodness.

right now i am listening to these guys.
loving this one and this one and this one.
basically the whole album rocks.
and their new album just came out.
can't wait to listen.

{Thursday}

quite creative with my post titles these days right?

this morning we had to pop into the book store to pick up two birthday gifts.
aubrey was all excited and said she wanted to buy a book.
all by herself.
with her own money.

we found her ladybug purse, counted her dollars and loaded it up.
she was so very excited.
"do big girls buy their own books mommy?"

oh how i love the bookstore.
i could literally spend the whole day here.
funny thing is...i'd never leave the children's section.

if i could have any other job on the planet it would be a children's book store owner.
just like the "shop around the corner" in the movie you've got mail.
remember that place?

they had all the springy, eastery books out.
you know how i'm ready for spring right?
now i'm really ready.

it was funny...on the way home aubrey asked me where big girls go to learn things.
i told her school...just like little girls...and that mommys and daddys can go to school too. it's called college.
she said "oh good mommy...i'm gonna go to college someday too...and i know...we can go together.
but we won't live there like steve (blue's clues)...we'll come home every night.
perfect.:)

when we headed out to get janey for lunch aubrey was playing with an empty cereal box that she brought along in the car. she made up a game...what's hiding in the box. she put one of our medicine syringes in there and gave me clues to try and guess...after i got it right she said..."ok...now hand me something else to put in the box...but don't look.":) ha ha
we had lots of fun with that game and janey even played along too.
she's a good little clue giver!:)

when we drove through the park we stopped to admire our semi-frozen lake.
janey said "it looks so peaceful and pristine."

i think i agree.

this was the soundtrack to our day.
i love every single song on that cd.
who am i kidding...i love every. single. one. of his cd's.
childhood in a song for sure. (am i right tara??:))

{Holiday Shows}

we were lucky...two holiday school shows to entertain us this season.

 

janey was first with "snow, snow, snow."

they sang and danced the night away.

when i asked janey her favorite part of course she said "all of it!"

but more specifically she liked the "winter fun song."

our seats weren't the best so we didn't get the greatest pictures.

riley filmed the whole thing on their ipods.

we made the dreadful mistake of letting aubrey watch it on the way home that night...

she threw up all over the car!!!:(

we should have known better with our motion sensitive sweetie.

not the best ending to our wonderful evening.

 

later that week it was riley's turn

 

 

  it was their first band performance and i have to tell you i was having some major flashbacks as i sat there watching her giggling with her friends with her clarinet up on her knee!!:)  i kept sending my iPhone pics to my parents and all my old friends...i think i was freaking them out a bit too...it was great.

 

 

riley's favorite band selection was "merry Christmas to all".

they don't usually practice with the full band so all week she kept telling me how great they sounded. she was so excited...that's a true musician for ya!

just wait baby..it only gets better.:)

 

riley had the narration part for her favorite chorus song "winter fantasy."

she did amazing.
